Manitoba Child Support Guidelines Implemented
The Family Maintenance Act was amended to provide, effective June 1, 1998, that all child support cases would be governed by provincial child support guidelines. These guidelines are quite similar to, but not exactly the same as, the Divorce guidelines. The big difference is that they will apply in all Manitoba cases, whether the child's parents were married or even living together. See the Statutes section of this web and in particular the Family Maintenance Act, the Child Support Guidelines and the Manitoba Tables.
The case law is developing under the Guidelines rapidly, but there are a number of unsettled areas, across Canada and in Manitoba.
